I have over thirty years experience in painting mostly in India, I now
work both from the United States and India. At the age of
twenty seven, I was personally commissioned by the President of
India, late Mr. Fakruddin Ali Ahmed to paint his portrait for the
Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi (which is equivalent to the White House,
Washington DC). This commission launched my career in
portrait painting. This was followed by another commission three years
later by late President N Sanjeeva Reddy, again for Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Recently I painted a portrait of President G W Bush for the
Chancery of the US Embassy, New Delhi. In the summer of 2001, I was
specially invited to attend the "The Portrait Artists Festival"
held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the first
Indian portrait artist ever to do so.
In 1982, I was commissioned by the late Prime Minister of
India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi to paint her portrait for the Prime Minister's
House, New Delhi. In 1984, I was commissioned by the late Mr. J R D Tata,
India's top industrialist, to paint his portrait for Bombay House,
Mumbai. I had painted the King of Bhutan for the Royal Palace, Thimpu,
Bhutan, and also State Governors, Supreme Court Judges, prominent Corporate CEOs,
prominent Socialites, a US Senator and many famous
personalities in India and United States. I have the singular
distinction to be the official portrait artist of the last ten Indian
Army Chiefs and the Indian Army, spanning over twenty five years.
I have also been the cover artist for "India Today" - India's top
selling weekly magazine, with over twelve covers to my credit. I have
also done till recently, over a thousand ink portrait
sketches of important personalities, on a daily basis for the
editorial page of the Times of India, India's largest circulated
newspaper. I am also equally talented in Ship and Animal
portraits, Army Battle paintings, caricatures and cartoons.
